Anointing of the Sick

What is Anointing of the Sick

“Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord” (James 5:14).

Many of us, perhaps, think this sacrament is celebrated only for those who are dying. However any illness of serious nature can be a legitimate reason to celebrate the sacrament. What’s more, the sacrament may be repeated if the sick person recovers after the anointing but becomes ill once again, or if, during the same illness, the person’s condition becomes more serious. Any person over the age of reason (age seven) preparing for surgery is encouraged to contact one of the priests to receive the sacrament.

Request an anointing

To request a priest for the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick visit, please contact the Parish Office. Appointments are scheduled based on urgency and need. The preference is to have a priest celebrate this Sacrament before it becomes an emergency.

In non-emergency settings, the Sacrament of Anointing can be arranged by contacting the Parish Office and scheduling a time when the priest can celebrate this Sacrament.

In emergencies call the Parish Office at 580-355-2054. If this call is after hours, follow the instructions on the voice mail to leave a message on our emergency line. Please speak clearly and repeat your phone number.

Request Holy Communion

To request a visit from a deacon or lay minister for Holy Communion for the sick and home-bound, please contact the Parish Office.
